British Home is now piloting a four-bedded Level 2B Neurorehabilitation service commissioned by the South-East London Integrated Care Board (ICB).
This specialist, multidisciplinary service supports adults with complex neurological conditions who require structured, goal-focused rehabilitation following completion of acute medical and surgical treatment.
The service strengthens the rehabilitation pathway across South-East London by providing coordinated step-down support that enables safer and more sustainable transitions into the community.
What is Level 2B Neurorehabilitation?
Level 2B neurorehabilitation provides coordinated rehabilitation for individuals who:
- Have complex neurological conditions such as acquired brain injury, stroke or progressive neurological disease
- Have completed their acute hospital treatment
- Require structured, multidisciplinary rehabilitation
- Do not require intensive Level 1 or 2A inpatient service
- Are progressing towards discharge into the communit
The focus is on measurable, goal-directed rehabilitation delivered within a supportive specialist environment.
Why This Stage of Rehabilitation Matters
Recovery from neurological injury or illness does not end at hospital discharge.
For many individuals, this transitional stage is critical to:
- Rebuilding mobility and functional independence
- Improving communication and cognitive skills
- Increasing confidence and psychological wellbeing
- Preparing safely for community living
With the right intensity of therapy and coordinated planning, meaningful progress can continue beyond the acute phase.
Our Role Within the NHS Rehabilitation Pathway
Through the Level 2B pathway, British Home plays an important role in the wider NHS system by:
- Supporting step-down care from acute hospital settings
- Reducing delayed discharges
- Freeing hospital bed capacity
- Enabling coordinated rehabilitation planning
- Supporting safer and more sustainable community transitions
This pilot reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening rehabilitation provision across South-East London.
