Volunteering with British Home is more than just lending a helping hand, it’s about becoming part of a compassionate community dedicated to empowering those affected by neuro-disability. By joining us, you’re making a real difference, bringing joy and support to people who face unique challenges every day. No matter your skills or time commitment, we have a role for you!
“Volunteering at British Home has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I’ve built connections and learned so much about resilience and compassion. Being a befriender has shown me how much a simple conversation can mean to someone. It’s the highlight of my week!”
Our Volunteering Roles
Befriender Volunteers:
Offer companionship to residents, sharing conversations, reading, or simply being a friendly face. These connections are incredibly meaningful and make a lasting impact on everyone involved.
Wellbeing Volunteers:
If you’re a hair stylist or nail technician, we’d love to hear from you. A great haircut or a fresh set of nails can do a lot for someone’s confidence and sense of self – your skills could bring that feeling to our residents.
Activities Volunteers:
Help us deliver the activities we already offer our residents. From crafts to movement sessions, your energy and presence can make a real difference to someone’s day.
Share your skill:
Lead your own activities by sharing a skill you love. Whether you’re a yoga instructor, a keen baker or an artist, what you know could open up a whole new experience for someone living with a neuro-disability. Get in touch via the sign-up sheet!
Volunteer Sign Up Process
Before you begin…
All volunteers need a valid DBS check. If you don’t have one, don’t worry! We’ll cover the cost and help you get set up. For some roles involving one-to-one time with residents, we may also ask for an additional reference or proof of a relevant professional qualification.
If you have any questions, please email volunteer@britishhome.org.uk
How to sign up:
- Complete our online application form.
- We’ll be in touch to confirm your availability, arrange your DBS check if needed, and request any additional information such as a reference. If you would like to bring a new skill or activity to British Home, we will arrange a call to discuss your ideas.
- Once everything is in place, sign up for your first shift.
- Come and meet the team, we can’t wait to welcome you!
