Chroma and British Home Shortlisted for National Rehabilitation Innovation Award

Chroma and British Home are proud to announce that their dramatherapy partnership has been shortlisted for the #RightToRehab Award at the Advancing Healthcare Awards UK 2026.

The partnership has been recognised for its innovative and person-centred approach to neurorehabilitation, improving access to psychological and emotional support for people living with complex neurological conditions.

Developed as part of a 26-week pilot programme at British Home, the initiative was designed to support residents who may face barriers to conventional talking therapies by embedding psychological support directly within the rehabilitation environment and bringing the right care closer to where people live.

Working collaboratively within British Home’s multidisciplinary team (MDT), a specialist dramatherapist delivered weekly individual and group sessions using evidence-based approaches including role-play, storytelling and embodied practice. The programme enabled residents to explore emotional expression, communication, identity and confidence in ways that complemented traditional rehabilitation therapies.

Over the six-month pilot:

  • 84 individual dramatherapy sessions were delivered to four residents, achieving a 100% attendance rate
  • 11 group sessions were delivered, with an average attendance of 11 residents per session
  • Residents worked collaboratively to set goals focused on emotional expression, communication, confidence, social interaction and adjustment following injury
  • Two residents successfully achieved their therapeutic goals and completed the intervention
  • Two residents continued therapy beyond the pilot period

Feedback from residents highlighted the positive impact the sessions had on wellbeing, confidence and social connection, with participants describing the sessions as “helpful”, “fun”, and an important outlet for emotional expression.

Staff observations also identified wider rehabilitation benefits, including reduced social isolation and improved engagement in daily living and rehabilitation activities.

The programme also demonstrated a sustainable and cost-effective model for integrating creative therapies into neurorehabilitation services. By embedding dramatherapy within existing MDT structures, the service maximised clinical efficiency, reduced missed appointments and enhanced resident motivation and participation across wider rehabilitation interventions.

The Advancing Healthcare Awards celebrate excellence, innovation and outstanding practice across the UK healthcare sector, recognising organisations and professionals making a meaningful difference through high-quality care, rehabilitation and support services.

Being shortlisted for the #RightToRehab Award is an important recognition of the partnership’s commitment to innovative, inclusive and person-centred neurorehabilitation.

At British Home, rehabilitation is about far more than clinical treatment alone. The organisation’s multidisciplinary approach combines specialist nursing care with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, clinical psychology, family therapy, music therapy, dramatherapy, art therapy and vocational rehabilitation, helping residents rebuild confidence, independence and quality of life within a warm and supportive environment.

We are incredibly proud to see the partnership recognised alongside leading organisations and professionals from across the healthcare sector.

The winners will be announced at the Advancing Healthcare Awards ceremony taking place in London in June 2026.
